OPTOMETRY TECHNOLOGY

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities as well as the correction of refractive error with glasses or contact lenses and treatment of eye diseases. Optometry technicians are also known as Optometrist. They are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system .At GIHS, students opting B.Voc degree in optometry will learn to provide adequate eye and vision care which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

Career Scope:

Optometrist is an independent primary health care provider who specializes in eye care and visual health. Students with B.Voc degree in Optometry can work as post-secondary teachers, occupational/industrial safety programs, consultants in the eye care industry or do research in optometry colleges. They can also choose a career in sports vision, public health and government service or community health centers, practicing in Retail/optical settings, Eye and Vision care health clinics, Public health Academic/Research, Manufacturing and distribution units of ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, and ophthalmic instruments
